Decline in Indian Student Strength in US Universities, says Report

There seemed a sharp decline in number of Indian students pursuing higher education in US. The student strength declined to 13.2% when considering the academic year 2020-21. The information was found out on Open Doors Report.  The number of Indians studying in US decreased from 1.93 lakh in the academic year 2019-20 to 1.67 lakh in 2020-21 academic year. US Embassy officials attributes this decline as a result of pandemic. Considering the subjects chosen for study for the academic year 2020-21 , 34.8% chose Math & Computer Science , 33.5% Engineering, 11.7% Business and Management respectively. Not only students from India , but overall US found a decline in  global student strength . Embassy officials describe this decline as “Covid Blip”. US Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs in association with Institute of International Education released the Open Doors Report.
